The Andrew College Fighting Tigers have hired James “Jamie” Brooks as their Head Men’s Basketball Coach to restart the program for the 2017-2018 season.

“The vision Jamie presented for our basketball team during this search as well as the character and integrity he possesses makes him the right coach for the Fighting Tigers,” said President Linda Buchanan. “As we build a new team, I am confident that Jamie has the leadership skills and knowledge to build it the right way. He has experience as a head coach and a proven track record for developing young players into winning players.”

Brooks has 11 years of coaching experience, including two seasons as a head coach and nine as an assistant coach. He has coached at Central Georgia Technical College, Middle Georgia College, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and most recently spent time at Cave Spring High School in Roanoke, Virginia. While at Central Georgia Technical College as head women’s basketball coach, Brooks led the women to a back-to-back 20+ win season for the first time in school history and back-to-back GCAA Tournament Final Four trips for the first time in school history.

Brooks was also the men’s assistant basketball coach in his first season at CGTC, where he helped lead the program to its first ever conference tournament appearance. He was also an assistant at Middle Georgia College from 2008-2010 where he was part of a staff that touted a 47-17 record, and won the 2009-2010 GCAA regular-season and tournament championship. Brooks was also an assistant at ABAC, where the team went 46-17 and earned the most wins (27) in school history.

Brooks said, “I am very excited and thankful for the opportunity to restart the men’s basketball program at Andrew College. Recruiting is going to play a major part in how successful we are, and I look forward to bringing in high-character student-athletes who can not only help build a winning tradition here at Andrew, but represent the college in a positive manner on campus and in the community, as well.”

Blake Williams, Andrew College athletic director said, “I’m very excited about the hiring of Jamie Brooks and bringing Men’s Basketball back to Andrew College. It has been over 10 years since we have had men’s basketball and the hiring of Coach Brooks has already created a big buzz in the community. As the search committee and myself went through the interview process everything kept leading back to Jamie Brooks and he became the obvious candidate that could lead our men’s team into a new era of success. I’m very happy to have Jamie on board as he already has hit the recruiting trail very hard looking for future Fighting Tigers.”

Williams said the college will be playing in Division one – Region 17 of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Brooks is a graduate of Lee County High School in Leesburg, Georgia, and has a bachelor’s degree from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia in business marketing. Jamie is engaged to be married to Jessica Lawless of Leesburg, Georgia.
