Chase Richardson Named Assistant Coach at Troy

Troy men’s basketball head coach Phil Cunningham announced on Thursday the hiring of Chase Richardson as an assistant coach. Richardson worked with Cunningham at Western Kentucky and replaces current East Mississippi Community College head coach Billy Begley.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Coach Cunningham for entrusting me with this great opportunity to join his coaching staff as well as the chance to be a part of the Troy University family and community,” Richardson said. “I am very excited and look forward to the great days ahead!”

Richardson comes to Troy after spending two years as the Hilltoppers’ director of basketball operations from 2013-15. Prior to his appointment, Richardson spent the 2012-13 season as the team’s video coordinator. He also held the position of interim assistant coach for three months.

During his tenure with WKU, Richardson was a part of the 2008, 2009, 2012, and 2013 teams that won Sun Belt championships and appeared in the NCAA Tournament.

“I spent one year on the staff at WKU and I had the opportunity to see Chase’s work ethic and ability to get things done on a daily basis,” Cunningham said. “He’s a young, hungry coach with a 24/7 mentality, and I’m excited about what he will add to our program. The fact that he has been a part of four Sun Belt teams that played in the NCAA Tournament is an added bonus Chase brings to our staff.”

During his final year at WKU, Richardson was also an assistant coach at Warren East High School in Bowling Green, Ky. After a year with the Raiders, Richardson returned to his alma mater as a volunteer assistant for the 2011-12 season.

The Elizabethtown, Ky., native began his coaching career as a student manager during his time as an undergrad, while earning his degree in social studies in 2011.

Richardson played basketball at Elizabethtown High School from 2002-2006. In 2006 he was named to the All-District team and All-Fifth Region team, joining current Troy junior Kelton Ford (LaRue Co.), and Cunningham (Taylor Co.) as former All-Fifth region performers within the Troy program.
