Daily Dirt – 4/24/15

Finally back from vacation – a bunch of things to catch-up on…

  • It sounds like new George Mason head coach Dave Paulsen will add Duane Simpkins and Dane Fischer to his staff.  Simpkins, who played at Maryland, was at UNCG for the past three seasons.  Fischer had been with Paulsen at both Bucknell and Williams. They will join Aaron Kelly who also came from Bucknell with Paulsen.
  • Speaking of Bucknell…now that Clayton State head coach Paul Harrison has joined Nathan Davis’s staff at BU, the search for his replacement at CSU is on.  The early “hot” name here is South Georgia State head coach Cory Baldwin.  He is a Clayton State alum who also spent seven years as an assistant there.  Baldwin also served as the head coach at Waycross College (GA) and Truett-McConnell College (GA).
  • On 4/22, I mentioned that I heard the Alcorn State search was down to three (Daily Dirt – 4/22/15): Clifford Reed (associate head coach UMES), Al Pinkins (former assistant Tennessee and Ole Miss), and a MEAC assistant.  I have now heard that the MEAC assistant is Bethune-Cookman assistant Montez Robinson.  He has been at B-CU for the past three seasons, and was an assistant at Kennesaw State for six seasons before that.
  • I have heard that DII Fresno Pacific is down to two in their search for a new head coach.  The names that I’ve heard are Andy Newman (head coach Texas-Permian Basin), and Adam Wall (assistant coach Metro State).  Both guys have Fresno ties – Newman was the DBO at Fresno State before a ten year run as an assistant at Cal-Fullerton.  Wall spent two seasons as an assistant at Fresno City College as an assistant, and he played there for two years.  It sounds like they have both interviewed on campus, and a decision should be made shortly.
