Daily Dirt – 6/1/11

Happy June…here are a few tidbits to kick off the month….

Arkansas – Ft. Smith assistant Ryan Price will join the staff at Southern. Price had been at UAFS for the past two seasons, and is the son of Tic Price, the former head coach at McNeese State, Memphis and New Orleans.

Derrick Jasper will be hired as the graduate assistant for Billy Gillispie at Texas Tech. Jasper played two seasons at Kentucky (one for Gillispie) before transferring to UNLV where he graduated wrapped up his career this past season.

It sounds like Kyle Keller will be hired as an assistant at Texas A&M. He was the video coordinator at Kansas since 2008. He served for 9 seasons on the staff at Oklahoma State before that.

Former DI assistant Kevin Mouton is taking a HS job at Second Baptist School in Houston. Mouton had been an assistant at Rice, Oregon State, Nebraska, St. Mary’s (Calif.), New Hampshire, Eastern Illinois, and Butler.

The eight person search committee at New Orleans met for the first time last night. It sounds like telephone interviews and on-campus visits will begin next week with the goal of having a new coach hired by July 1. The committee will be chaired by AD Amy Champion. The other members are: Dr. James Lowry, Chair of the Geography department, Dan Harper, Associate Director for Interdisciplinary Studies, Marco Perez, Lakefront Arena general manager, Assistant Athletic Director for Business Operations Ola Adegboye, Compliance Director Sheri Dooley, Director of Athletic Media Relations Jason Plotkin and PAF President and Perlis Inc. CFO Mike Sapera. It also sounds like they are committed to moving to DII.
