Daily Roundup – 11/16/15

What a wild first weekend of the college basketball season!  There were a bunch of high major upsets…

  • Sacramento State spoils Bobby Hurley’s debut at Arizona State with a 66-63 win.  Another tough one on deck tonight for the Sun Devils (keep reading…)
  • UCLA dropped their season opener to Monmouth in overtime 84-81 on Friday.  The Bruins then eeked on out against Cal Poly on Sunday 88-83.  At least the have T.J. Leaf on the way next season…
  • Radford beats Georgetown 82-80 in double overtime.  It doesn’t get any easier for the Hoyas, – they now enter a tough three game stretch: on the road at Maryland, home vs. Wisconsin, and then either Duke or VCU at the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Wounded Warriors @ Madison Square Garden.
  • Nice debut for head coach Matt McCall at Chattanooga.  His Mocs went into Athens and beat Georgia 92-90 in overtime.
  • Tough start for Bo Ryan’s Badgers – they dropped a 69-67 decision to Western Illinois.  I’m still not convinced that this will be his last season…
  • The ink was still wet on Mark Gottfried’s newly signed extension when his NC State squad got throttled by William & Mary 85-68 on Friday.  The Wolfpack did rebound to beat South Alabama 88-70 on Sunday.
  • Troy University, who was just 10-19 last season, went into South Florida and upset Orlando Antigua’s Bulls 82-77.
  • Belmont beats Marquette on the road 83-80.  Rick Byrd’s Bruins have Arizona State tonight – definitely a game to keep an eye on.

I know scheduling is not an easy thing (I’ve done it for years).  To make it easier, and to avoid early season upsets, coaches should check out our game scheduling board: HoopDirt.com Games Board.  You will need to register for a free HoopDirt.com account to be able to view the board and you must sign-up with a .edu address.  If you have not already registered, you can do so here:  HoopDirt.com registration.
