Hook Named Assistant Basketball Coach at Upper Iowa

Head Coach Brooks McKowen has announced that Trevor Hook will be the new assistant coach of the Peacock men’s basketball program. Hook will be promoted within the program after serving as a graduate assistant at Upper Iowa for the last two seasons.

“I am very lucky to be able to retain Trevor as an assistant coach,” said McKowen. “He was a great addition to my staff two years ago when he took the graduate assistant spot. There is nobody that is more passionate about Upper Iowa University and our men’s basketball program than he is. He was an outstanding student-athlete and teammate and has continued his hard work and dedication to this program as a coach.”

Next year will mark Hook’s seventh year as a Peacock. The Holland, Iowa native played for the men’s basketball team from 2010-14 prior to working as a graduate assistant under McKowen the last two seasons.  As a Peacock, Hook saw action in 60 games making 9 starts in three active seasons; he sat out his junior season due to an injury.

In addition to continuing his duties in scouting, preseason and postseason workouts, practice planning and many other areas of the basketball program, Hook will act as the recruiting coordinator moving forward and also work very closely with the team on their academic affairs and community engagements. He will also assist in the coordination and execution of all of the men’s basketball camps.

“Trevor has built outstanding relationships with our current players and does a tremendous job evaluating and recruiting future players for our program,” added McKowen. “He works extremely hard on and off the court for our program and is always working to improve himself as a coach. He has a very good knowledge of the game and is very good at helping with in-game adjustments.”

The Grundy Center High School product came to UIU after an outstanding career with the Spartans.  Hook averaged 16.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists at Grundy Center as a senior leading the team to a 19-5 record and a No. 1 ranking in Class 2A midway through the season.

Hook graduated from Upper Iowa with a Bachelor’s Degree in management in 2014 and is nearing completion of a Master’s Degree in higher education administration with an emphasis on leadership at UIU.
