Description:

The Assistant Basketball Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Basketball Coach in creating and maintaining a successful program for the Institution on the court, in the classroom and in the community. Knowledge and skills required by the position includes the following: knowledge of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and Affiliated Conference rules and regulations; knowledge of college-level athletic program management principles; knowledge of sports court maintenance principles; knowledge of Basketball rules and procedures; knowledge of computers and job-related software programs; skill in the coaching and training of student athletes; skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions; and skill in written/oral communication.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Teaching of skills required for both team and individual player development in
coordination with the Head Coach.
-Assists in identifying and recruiting academically and athletically talented student-
athletes.
-Assists in/with scheduling of Referees; acquiring game balls; preparation of court; on
court coaching; court clean up and lock down; enters statistics.
-Assists with maintenance of Basketball court.
-Assists with monitoring academic, social and personal development of basketball
student-athletes.
-Assist in promoting Middle Georgia State College and the Basketball program to the
community and all forms of media.
-Develops and maintains effective relationships and communications with students,
colleagues,staff, alumni, and parents to ensure the success and growth of the
program.
-Assists in maintaining and inventorying equipment.
-Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational court; experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service; and experience as a team player or coach at the collegiate or professional level may substitute for education requirements.
