Belhaven University, a Christ-centered university located in Jackson, MS, is seeking applications for the role of Head Coach for the Men’s Basketball program. Belhaven is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU), the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) and offers seventeen National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) sports programs. Belhaven is currently in the transition process from NAIA to NCAA Division III membership.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The Head Men’s Basketball Coach reports to the Vice President and Director of Athletics and is responsible for planning and administering all aspects of the Men’s Basketball program, including: Recruiting and retaining qualified student-athletes; coaching the team during scheduled practices and competitions; demonstrating competitive accomplishment on the court; providing spiritual leadership and direction for team members; maintaining responsibility for expense control with all program expenditures; mentoring student-athletes in their academic performance to assure timely progress toward degree completion and graduation; directing the program within NAIA and SSAC rules and regulations; developing strong relationships with Belhaven Men’s Basketball alumni; developing a schedule for competition and Champions of Character outreach activities.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrated success in coaching collegiate basketball and a Bachelor’s degree. Effective verbal and written communication skills; sound interpersonal skills in dealing with student-athletes, university personnel and members of the off-campus community; ability to operate a collegiate basketball program within budget parameters.
