Description:

Provide strategic direction, leadership, and motivation to prepare student-athletes for intercollegiate competition. Plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions. Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations. Plan and direct physical conditioning programs that will enable athletes to achieve maximum performance. Instruct individuals or groups in rules, strategies, techniques, and principles relevant to their particular sport. Evaluate athletes’ skills and review performance records to determine their fitness and potential in a particular area of athletics. Keep abreast of changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies relevant to their sport. Ensure compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations for student-athletes. An employee who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
Qualified candidates must have the ability to organize and administer all phases of a competitive Division II men’s basketball program.

Oversee the identification and evaluation of prospective student-athletes (PSAs) to UCO whose athletic and personal skills make them highly competitive in the MIAA and nationally, and whose academic potential makes them good candidates for a meaningful experience and graduation from UCO.

Organizes and administers the recruitment of student-athletes and the team practices and games in a manner to produce the highest level of success.

Coordinates and administers the academic progress and character building of the athletes to assist them in balancing athletics and academics in order to ensure retention and academic success.

Provide feedback and evaluation of student-athletes regarding potential, progress and performance.

Oversee and manage program budget to include, equipment purchasing, scheduling, travel arrangements, accommodations and meals.

Promote the University of Central Oklahoma and the athletics program through community involvement, public relations and fundraising under the direction of the Director of Athletics.

Hire, supervise and evaluate Assistant Coaches and other support staff.

Works closely with NCAA Athletic Compliance staff to ensure adherence to all applicable NCAA, Conference and University regulations.

Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of and adheres to applicable NCAA, Conference, University, and departmental rules and regulations. Upon notification of any NCAA violation, reports the violation to the NCAA Compliance Office. Also has a responsibility to follow applicable procedures and cooperate fully with any and all investigations of potential violations of NCAA, Conference, University or departmental rules and regulations.
