Xavier University of Louisiana located in the heart of the city of New Orleans, founded by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, is Catholic and historically Black. The ultimate purpose of the University is to contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society.

Xavier athletics is currently accepting applications to fill a graduate assistantship in our athletic administrative offices to work in conjunction with our men’s basketball program. Xavier sponsors nine varsity sports that compete in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC). Xavier’s men’s basketball program fields consistent top-25 squads and has qualified for the NAIA national tournament six straight seasons and 10 times in the past 12 seasons.

We are seeking a team player to join our staff that has a passion for men’s basketball and wants to gain some experience in a fast paced athletics department. The anticipated start date is January 2017.

Responsibilities: Include assisting the staff with practice, academic progress, strength and conditioning, recruitment and retention of student athletes, video editing and analysis, as well as perform other tasks as needed.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and have previous collegiate playing or coaching/managerial experience.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Successfully apply and be accepted into a Xavier University of Louisiana graduate program
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills
  • Experience with video editing software
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of student-athletes and university staff
  • Strong ethical awareness
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required
