Pittman Joins UNC Pembroke Staff

UNC Pembroke men’s basketball head coach Ben Miller has announced the addition of Griffin Pittman as an assistant coach for the Braves.

“We are very excited to have Griffin join our staff,” Miller said. “I’m blessed as a coach to have my current staff, and Griff will only make us stronger. He was a coach on the floor as a player and has a strong passion for the game. He also loves UNCP and bleeds Black & Gold. He will be a great asset to our program.”

A Charlotte native, Pittman played in 118 games (83 starts) for the Braves from 2011-15 and helped lead the Black & Gold to a cumulative 79-43 (.648) record that included a pair of trips (2012-13, 2014-15) to the NCAA Tournament, as well as a share of the 2014-15 Peach Belt Conference East Division crown. Pittman, who averaged 8.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists over his collegiate career, shot better than 40 percent from the floor and played 26.4 minutes an outing as well.

“I’m excited to join the staff at UNCP,” Pittman said. “I am very eager to get back to the game of basketball, especially at the place I played. I can’t wait to get back into the hunt for a championship but, more importantly, shape these guys into successful men both on and off the court.”

A two-time member of the PBC Presidential Honor Roll, Pittman earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from UNCP in 2015.
