Terry Johnson Elevated to Assistant Basketball Coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men’s basketball head coach Willis Wilson announced the elevation of Terry Johnson to Assistant Coach on Wednesday.  Johnson had been the program’s Director of Operations for the past two seasons.

“I’m extremely grateful to Coach Wilson for giving me this opportunity,” Johnson said. “Getting back on the court and into a coaching position is something I’ve been striving to do and I’m excited to get started with this great coaching staff and talented group of student-athletes.”

After coming to the Island in August of 2014, Johnson has handled a majority of the administrative tasks surrounding Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Men’s Basketball, including team travel.

“I’m really excited about elevating Terry Johnson to a full-time coaching position,” Wilson said. “I know it was something that he’s been dying to do and he’s been tremendous behind the scenes for us.”

Johnson has also been integral in the continued success of the Islanders Summer Basketball Camps and has played a vital role in the team’s commitment to community service over the past two years.

“His drive and his work ethic are really going to be beneficial for us,” Wilson said. “He also has great relationships with the players. We’re really, really excited about this opportunity.”

Prior to arriving in Corpus Christi, Johnson spent one season as an assistant coach at NAIA University of St. Thomas in Houston. He was responsible for recruiting, scouting, post play and team travel for the Celts.

Johnson played collegiate basketball at Moorpark Community College and Cal State-Stanislaus before starting his coaching career as a student assistant at CSU-Stanislaus.  He graduated from the University in 2012.
