5 Late Clock Game Winning Baseline out of Bounds Sets

Late clock game winning scenarios can be just as stressful for coaches as they are for players. Relying on the same 5-10 baseline out-of-bounds (BLOB) plays throughout the season might not cut it. This is the perfect opportunity to execute that special set you’ve been saving. Gathered out of our “Find a Play” database, below are 5 of the BEST baseline out-of-bounds sets we’ve seen teams execute and win!

Late Clock Game Winning Sets

Misdirection or decoy sets serve as effective backups by deceiving the defense, some would call this a “trick” play. Within the following sets, you’ll notice familiar plays enhanced with additional scoring options. All five of these sets can be executed with less than 5-10 seconds on the game clock.

Man Overload

What we admire about this play is its dual-scoring threat—both inside the paint and beyond the arc. Bringing all five players to one side creates an overload, opening up space on the backside. This play can effectively serve as a decoy for a three-point attempt, with the option to lob or dish into the open paint. It offers multiple options and counters against the defense’s overload on the baseline

Kansas State Decoy Stagger

Minimal movement maximizes effectiveness, exemplified by this setup. By side-by-side double screen from 4 and 5 allows 2 to locate to the opposite wing. Player 1 draws the defensive with a strong cut toward the basket. This tactical decoy frequently leads to open scoring opportunities, whether for an easy basket or a three-pointer.

Open

While this formation may suggest elevator action, it cleverly serves as a decoy for isolating player 4. This versatile position allows you to position your top-post player for a potential late clock game winning play.

Missouri Tigers Screen The Screener

This play is a proven game-winner, effective in numerous variations. It begins in an offset box formation, initiating with a back screen for 3 followed by a flare screen for 2 by 4. Finally, 5 starts with a back screen for 4, cleverly slipping away for an open layup opportunity.

Box vs 2-3 Zone Defense

Among these five late clock game winning sets, this one stands out as the most fundamental and dependable. It begins with 3 quickly sprinting to the opposite corner to draw x3 away. Then, 5 sets a screen against their defender x5, creating an open opportunity for 4 to dive.
