Snead State CC (AL) Names Jeremiah Patterson Head Basketball Coach

Snead State Community College announced today the appointment of a new head men’s basketball coach.  Jeremiah Patterson accepted the position and will begin immediately. He has served as the assistant coach of the men’s basketball team at Snead State for the past three seasons. As the head coach for Snead’s junior varsity squad, Patterson led them to a combined 14-2 record for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

“I’m really excited about my new position as the head coach of the Parsons men’s basketball team. I look forward to building onto the basketball program and cultivating these young men into mature, productive members of the community who will make Snead State very proud,” said Coach Patterson. “This is where I grew up, where I attended college and where my family is. I’m excited for this opportunity.”

Patterson graduated from Boaz High School. He attended Snead State for two years before transferring to Jacksonville State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. He is currently a physical education teacher at Corley Elementary in Boaz. He has almost 20 years of experience coaching basketball.

For five years, he served as a teacher and varsity boys’ head basketball coach at Boaz High School. He went 88-62 with two area championships and appearances in the sub-regional and northeast-regional playoffs. He has also served as a JV boys basketball coach and seventh and eighth grade boys’ basketball coach.

He posted an overall record of 197-73 of all the teams he coached during his time at Boaz, which included two middle school county championships, two JV county championships, two area championships, four sub-regional appearances and two regional appearances. He was also named JV Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2008 in Marshall County.

“We are excited to have Coach Patterson as our men’s basketball coach,” said Snead State Athletic Director Mark Richard. “With his experience and knowledge, he will be a great asset to Snead State and to the men on his team. He has committed to join us in assisting our student-athletes to a promising future as college graduates.”

Patterson is married to Leah Patterson and has two children, Maddux, 10, and Maggie, 8. They reside in Boaz.

Additionally, Assistant Coach Dylan Johnson was named Associate Head Coach for the men’s team. Johnson served as the assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s team at Snead State in 2015. In his new role, he will only be coaching the men’s team.

Johnson joined Snead State from Impact Basketball Academy in Sarasota, Fla. As the high school head coach and director of player development of post-graduate student-athletes, he advanced two players onto the NCAA Division I level while training athletes from six continents.

He is a 2014 graduate of the University of Michigan. During his time there, he was able to work with both the men’s and women’s basketball teams during the summers of UM’s national champion runner-up season. He also served as freshman head coach and varsity assistant at Saline High School in Michigan.
