Ray Harper Named ASUN Coach of the Year

Leading Jacksonville State to its first Division I regular-season conference title in its first season back in the ASUN Conference, head coach Ray Harper and senior Darian Adams have earned postseason accolades the league office announce Tuesday afternoon.

Harper, JSU’s winningest coach in the Division I era, has been named the league’s Coach of the Year by his fellow peers after a 13-3 championship season. The Bremen, Ky., native, secured his fourth 20-win season for the Gamecocks in his sixth season at the helm, after JSU had just one such season since 1995 prior to his arrival. It marks the first Coach of the Year honor at the Division I level for Harper, after a legendary run in Division II and NAIA ranks saw him collect seven conference coaching honors, and five national coach of the year awards.

JSU’s only other coach to earn conference coach of the year honors was Bill Jones on three occasions in the Gulf South Conference in 1985, 1990 and 1992.
