Shenandoah University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Bridget Lyons announced Thursday that Adam Walsh has resigned as the Hornets head men’s basketball coach.
 
Walsh, a Winchester native and a James Wood High School graduate, posted a 23-86 record in five seasons as the third full-time head coach in program history. His best season came in 2017-18, his first, when SU was 8-18 overall and 3-13 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
 
In that season, Shenandoah also moved into its new home, the 70,000-square-foot James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center.
 
On Nov. 30, 2019, Walsh experienced a personal milestone with victory No. 100 as a college head coach in the Hornets’ 101-95 ODAC win over then-member Emory & Henry.
 
This year, Walsh’s club finished with a 4-22 mark following an 86-71 loss to Hampden-Sydney in the opening round of the ODAC Tournament.
  
“I want to thank Adam for all of his hard work and dedication over the past five seasons,” Dr. Lyons said. “He guided us through the transition from Shingleton Gymnasium to the Wilkins Center and through the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 season. His players have continually improved in the classroom and with their participation in community service.
 
“We appreciate everything he has done for the department and the program and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
 
Lyons also stated that the university will undertake a national search for Walsh’s replacement with a goal of having the new coach in place before the end of the spring semester.
