Nebraska parts ways with assistant coach Abdelmassih

Matt Abdelmassih is no longer an assistant basketball coach at Nebraska. Head Coach Fred Hoiberg released the following statement today:

“Matt and I have a close relationship dating back to our time in the front office with the Timberwolves,” Hoiberg said. “He was a big part of our success at Iowa State and played a leading role in building our roster at Nebraska. I wish Matt and his family nothing but the best.”

Abdelmassih, who had worked with Fred Hoiberg with both the Minnesota Timberwolves and at Iowa State, joined the Husker staff in April of 2019. He also spent four seasons at St. John’s (2015-19) before reuniting with Hoiberg at Nebraska.

Nebraska has lost 20-games in each of Hoiberg’s first three seasons, including a 10-22 (4-16 Big Ten) record this past season. No word yet if more staff changes are coming.
