The Assistant Basketball Coach provides administrative, instructional, and recruiting support services under the direction of the head coach.
Employment in this position is contingent upon compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA and Conference affiliation.
Essential Functions:
- Assists the head coach in day-to-day operations of the athletic department weight room and conditioning activities for the assigned sport. This includes, but is not limited to, planning workouts, teaching, and oversight of weightlifting (Olympic and other), supervising and teaching conditioning drills that focus on movement techniques.
- Prepares, plans, conducts, and evaluates practice sessions, as directed.
- Teaches advanced level skills and game strategies.
- Instructs individuals and groups of players specific tasks and skills before, during and after practice, during season and off-season.
- Exhibits leadership, professional behavior, and tact when dealing with student athletes, parents, administration, and University staff.
- Assists in the maintenance and upkeep of the facility to include all of the equipment.
- Communicates with student athletes, coaches and administrators, and parents, both in person, over the telephone, and through written correspondence.
- Adheres to NCAA, Conference, and University policy with regards to rules, regulations, and ethics of each entity.
- Mentors all student athletes with regards to personal conduct, academic and athletic endeavors.
- Develops safe and effective lifting techniques and aerobic conditioning.
- Travels for recruiting, contests, and speaking arrangements.
- Performs related duties as required.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree,
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience as an athlete, coach or athletic administrator
