Davidson head men’s basketball coach Bob McKillop has announced the promotion of Joshua Heyliger to assistant coach.
“We are thrilled to announce that Josh Heyliger will be promoted to the position of Assistant Coach,” McKillop said. “For the past three years, he has worked tirelessly and passionately to do everything possible to make us better. His commitment to Davidson College and to our team has earned him this honor and has prepared him very well to become an even more integral part of our program.”
Heyliger, who joined McKillop’s staff in August of 2019 as the Director of Operations, has helped guide the Wildcats to a 56-30 overall mark, 32-15 record in conference play and two postseason appearances (2021 NIT, 2022 NCAA Tournament).
In 2021-22, Davidson finished an impressive 27-7 and captured the Atlantic 10 Conference regular season title with a program-record 15 wins, while earning its second NCAA at-large selection in school history.

Before coming to Davidson, Heyliger was a graduate assistant coach at Dartmouth, where he performed a myriad of tasks, including helping with player development, game preparation and scouting, breaking down video and assisting with logistical issues.
Prior to his stint with the Big Green, Heyliger served as a varsity boys’ basketball assistant coach and Assistant Athletic Director at The Hill School, the prep institution from which he graduated. He also was the junior varsity boys’ basketball head coach the year before while also serving as a communications intern and admissions intern.
A native of Queens, N.Y., Heyliger played at Stonehill College where he helped the Skyhawks to consecutive Division II NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight berth his senior campaign.
After receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in communications in 2016, Heyliger spent time as a coach and camp counselor at the Alexander Basketball Academy in Pottstown, Pa. The following summer, he served as a coach at Hoop Group, held at Albright College.
