Catching-up on a few things…

It sounds like High Point will hire Steve Payne as their associate head coach. The former head coach at Tennessee Tech (2011-19) had been on been on the Kansas City staff for the past three seasons. I have heard that he was offered the New Mexico Junior College job earlier this week, but has passed on it to head to High Point.

Speaking of New Mexico JC…since Payne is no longer in the mix, I have heard that the next group includes former Milwaukee assistant John Bowler (has also been the head coach at Des Moines Area CC), and Hutchinson CC assistant coach Eric Nitsche. Sounds like this one will move quickly.

Following-up on my TWEET from last week…Tamar Slay has resigned as an assistant at Marshall nearly a month after being hired. Slay, who scored over 1,700 points at Marshall (1998-2002) will reportedly head home to North Carolina. No word yet on a possible replacement on Dan D’Antoni’s staff.

A couple college guys headed to the HS ranks…

North Alabama assistant Tom Berryman has departed and will become the head coach at Madison Academy (AL). Berryman had been at UNA for the past four seasons, and was on the staff at SEMO before that.

Former NC State assistant Roy Roberson has taken over at Sanderson HS (NC). Roberson had been on Kevin Keatts staff since 2018 before being released earlier this spring.

D2 Georgia College is bringing five finalists to campus. I have heard that the group includes current GC assistant Ryan Aquino, two D1 guys, and a current D2 head coach. Not sure on #5. More on this one as I hear it.
