University of Dallas Basketball Staff Update

University of Dallas men’s basketball head coach Matt Grahn has announced the addition of two new coaches to his staff for the 2022-23 season: Holden Haskett and Andrew Sparks.

Haskett joins the Crusaders as the new Volunteer Assistant by way of San Diego, California, having most recently been a coach for the Grozs Sports Academy as the head coach for the 10U and assistant coach for the 12U basketball teams in the La Jolla based multi-sport academy.  Prior to the Grozs Academy, Haskett was also an assistant coach for the 16U and 18U teams for Gamepoint Basketball, one of the premier basketball clubs in the San Diego area.

This will be his first foray into coaching at the collegiate level, but Haskett was chomping at the bit for the opportunity: “I am excited to join the coaches here at the University of Dallas. This is an opportunity that was so appealing that I could not get here from San Diego quickly enough. I want to thank Coach Grahn for giving me this chance and I look forward to the upcoming season!”

Sparks, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, will be the Crusaders’ new Graduate Assistant, having just concluded his playing career at Schreiner University.  Sparks will be looking to transfer four years of on-court knowledge and skill to his first collegiate coaching gig.  The Mountaineers 2020-21 team captain and 2018 SCAC Champion is no stranger to game day operations; on top of aiding his team with scouting assigments, he was a member of the athletic event staff for three years in is time at Schreiner.

After a year working for Sporting KC, the Major League Soccer team in his home town, Sparks is ready to be back on the court: “I’m excited to be back in the SCAC, and for the opportunity to be able to work with Coach Grahn and Coach Conaty here at UD!”

“These two are young, eager, and will inject energy and enthusiasm into the program,” said Coach Grahn.  “Even in their youth, they bring a wealth of experience to the staff, and I am excited to see how they develop as professionals and the impact they will have on this team.”
