Providence College Associate Director of Player Development, Scouting and Recruiting Coordination Bob Walsh is on the move, and will join Rick Pitino’s staff at Iona as an assistant coach.
Walsh returned to PC back in 2019, after a stint as the head coach at Maine. He had previously served on the Friars staff from 1998-2005. Walsh also had a ton of success as the head coach at D3 Rhode Island College. In his nine seasons at the helm of the Anchormen (2005-14), he put together a 203-64 (.760) record.
Interestingly enough, Walsh, a New York native, began his coaching career in 1994 as a graduate assistant at Iona.
Walsh will replace veteran assistant coach Tom Abatemarco who left the program to deal with an illness in his family on the West Coast. The veteran coach will look to make a return to the sidelines next season.
More on this when it becomes official.
