Description:
The men’s basketball program and head coach represent Marquette University on a national scope with significant university reputation, financial, and donor relation implications. This position will be responsible for strategically managing the head men’s basketball coach’s time and activities as they relate to management of the men’s basketball program and engagement on behalf of the university. Manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders on behalf of the coach, including members of the MU Athletics Board and MU Board of Trustees (related to basketball activities/non-board related), benefactors, corporate partners and community leaders. Staff the head coach at all home and away games and key events (including extensive travel). Align and coordinate basketball program components to execute head coach’s vision, expectations and image for the program. May represent the head coach at meetings as needed and provide direction and clarity to internal and external constituents on behalf of the coach. Provide direct executive level staffing to the coach including management of communication, schedule, travel arrangements, and program budget.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Staffing:
a. Provide direct staffing to the coach including management of communication, schedule, travel arrangements, and program budget.
b. Secure coach’s feedback and follow up on men’s basketball activities to move relationships, projects, and initiatives forward internally and externally, and share all critical next steps with coach both timely and accurately.
c. Manage and prioritize communications of the head coach, write and edit emails and handle other types of communications.
d. Trouble shoot issues and respond. Uses knowledge of university resources to resolve complex issues.
e. Review and prioritize appearance requests and provide materials as it relates to program execution and overall messaging.
f. Provide staffing for the coach at all home and away games and key events (including extensive travel).
g. Responsible for the coach’s expenses and P-card.
2. Align, coordinate, and organize men’s basketball program components to facilitate and execute head coach’s vision and image for the various areas (external relations, recruiting, player development, compliance, camps, scouting, culture, etc.). Work closely with basketball staff in all details of program administration.
3. Manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders on behalf of the coach, including members of the MU Athletics Board and MU Board of Trustees (related to basketball activities/non-board related), benefactors, corporate partners, and community leaders.
4. Serve as liaison to key campus constituents including athletics marketing and communications staff, president’s office, and advancement. Collaborate with colleagues on special projects and initiatives.
5. Represent the head coach at meetings as needed and provide direction and clarity to internal and external constituents on behalf of the coach.
6. Oversee all aspects of the head coach’s travel (includes scheduling of flights, lodging, itinerary development, and preparation of materials)
7. Maintain comprehensive and accurate records. Oversee digitization of head coach’s notes and records.
8. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

High school diploma required.
5 years comparable professional experience required.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Highly organized with great attention to detail.
Proven ability to successfully set and communicate priorities, work within a complex environment, and complete work in a timely manner despite many deadlines and competing requirements.
Ability to ensure the highest level of confidentiality.
Ability to build and maintain positive relationships within and outside the basketball program with a diverse group of people.
Proficient in Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Ability to work nights/weekends and required to travel with the coach and team.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

A college degree is preferred.
Knowledge or background in fundraising/development and/or project management with the following traits: service oriented, trustworthy, collaborative, loyal, and discerning.
Ability to drive culture.
Values compatible with and supportive of Marquette’s mission as a culturally diverse, Catholic Jesuit University desirable.
