The College of Saint Rose has announced that Elijah Burns has been named assistant coach of the men’s basketball program.
“We’ve been very fortunate over the years to have had many talented assistant coaches. I could not be more excited to add Elijah Burns to that list as we introduce him as our new full time men’s basketball assistant coach,” said Saint Rose Head Coach Brian Beaury. “I’ve known Elijah for a long time, watched him grow up, followed his playing career and am impressed with his impact on our program in just a few weeks. I see a bright future ahead for Elijah and look forward to seeing him grow as he helps our program get back to the days where anything less than an NCAA tournament bid is a bad year. What’s best is Elijah has that same mindset!”
Burns has several seasons of professional playing experience, including overseas stops with the Kagoshima Rebnise (Japan), OSE Lions (Hungary), and Worcester Wolves (England). Prior to turning pro, Burns was a captain while playing for both the Notre Dame and Siena men’s basketball teams.
Burns was a member of the Fighting Irish’ 2016 Elite Eight and 2017 Sweet 16 teams before helping Siena claim the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season championship as a graduate transfer in the 2019-20 season.
A native of Troy, N.Y., Burns starred as LaSalle Institute for three years before transferring to the Blair Academy (NJ) for two seasons. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Notre Dame in December 2018.
