Old Dominion head men’s basketball coach Jeff Jones suffered a heart attack in Honolulu on Wednesday night, the athletic department announced in a release earlier today.
According to the statement, Jones suffered the heart attack on Wednesday night, and is “resting comfortably and expecting a full recovery.” Jones, is expected to remain hospitalized for the next 48-72 hours for observation.
Jones and the Monarchs are in Hawaii for the Diamond Head Classic, where they play TCU today. Assistant Coach Kieran Donohue will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of this week’s tournament.
Jones is in his 31st season as a head coach, and 11th at ODU. He has previous stops at American (2000-13) and Virginia (1990-98).
He has had two previous battles with prostate cancer back in 2015 and 2018, and has been a vocal advocate for prostate cancer awareness since his first diagnosis.
