Description: | Arkansas State University-Newport is seeking applications for the position of Public Relations Coordinator/Athletic Director on the Newport campus. The Public Relations Coordinator is a campus-based position that is responsible for public relations activities for the campus and its Athletic Programs, consistent with ASUN strategic branding, goals and objectives. The incumbent coordinates with the Executive Cabinet, Dean for Enrollment Management, Academic Deans, and other key personnel on public relations activities to support strategic goals. The Coordinator develops and distributes press releases; manages social media (Aviator athletics); assists with college social media, maintains relationship with local media including print, digital and broadcast; contributes website and -newsletter content; supports on-campus events, community spaces and outreach. This position reports to the Chancellor. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Responsible for the game day entertainment experience, including crowd engagement, giveaways, fan building, et al… In addition to the duties listed above, the incumbent is required to serve on assigned committees and task forces; Attend and participate at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. These may involve attendance at afterhours events. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDS, PROPERTY and EQUIPMENT Shares responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the lab equipment and facilities. TOOLS None TECHNOLOGY & SOFTWARE SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Oversight of coaches COMMUNICATION SKILLS Strong communication skills are required. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals so others will understand; Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, faculty, administration or the general public. The ability to speak clearly so others can understand your instruction. The ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs. CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Under general direction, working from policies and general directives. Rarely refers specific cases to supervisor unless clarification or interpretation of the organization’s policy is required or to inform of actions taken. PLANNING Considerable responsibility with regard to general assignments in planning time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work, in addition, the work operations of a group of students. DECISION MAKING Performs work operations which permit frequent opportunity for decision-making of major importance and also frequent opportunity for decision-making of minor importance, either of which would affect the work operations of small organizational component and the organization’s customers. ANALYTICAL ABILITY / PROBLEM SOLVING Moderately structured. Fairly broad activities using moderately structured procedures with only generally guided supervision. Interpolation of learned things in somewhat varied situations. USE OF MACHINES, EQUIPMENT AND/OR COMPUTERS Regular use office equipment (desktop/laptop computer and software) ACCURACY High level of accuracy is required in performance of instruction. PUBLIC CONTACT Regular contacts other university employees at all levels within the organization as well as external stakeholders. EMPLOYEE CONTACT Regular contact with other college employees at all levels within the organization.
