SIUE men’s basketball Head Coach Brian Barone has added Jay Bradley to his staff as an Assistant Coach / Director of Player Development.
Bradley joins the Cougars after having most recently served as the Head Coach at Northwest Kansas Technical College, a junior college in Goodland, Kansas.
After winning just three games the season before Bradley arrived, the program’s win total improved each season with Bradley at the helm. Last season, the Mavericks won 16 games and advanced to the second round of the NJCAA Region 6 Tournament.
“Bringing Jay onto our staff will bring us a lot of experience in all areas of our program,” Barone said. “Jay has put the time into his coaching career already at several levels and has earned this opportunity. He has run his own program for several years and understands the daily grind and the investment it takes to be a winner. We look forward to continuing to grow our players on and off the court with experienced staff.”
Bradley spent the 2020-21 basketball season as an assistant coach at Clarendon College, a junior college in Clarendon Texas. With Bradley on staff, the Bulldogs placed third in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC). At Clarendon, Bradley helped mentor Zarique Nutter, who earned accolades as the WJCAC Freshman of the Year, and BJ Simmons, who was a All-WJCAC First Team selection.
“I want to be a part of something that is going to continue to grow,” Bradley said about SIUE. “I want to be around good people and this staff has high-character men. That made me most excited to be part of this program.”
Bradley previously was an assistant coach at Odessa College in Odessa, Texas and as the Director of Operations at Quincy, where he worked under current SIUE assistant Ryan Hellenthal.
In addition to college basketball, Bradley was the head coach with ProSkills in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League and with the Cooz Elite Basketball program, which won the Puma Circuit.
Bradley also has coached Cason Wallace, who currently plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder, as well as Junior College All-Americans James Reese and Russel Harrison.
Bradley received his bachelor’s degree from Barclay College and holds a master’s degree from Texas Permian Basin.
