NAIA Texas College head men’s basketball coach Walter Yates passed away today. The college released the following statement:

It is with solemn and heavy hearts that Texas College announces the passing of Mr. Walter Yates, Head Men’s Basketball Coach. Coach Yates passed early this morning, Friday, December 20, 2024. Please keep his family in your prayers during this time. More information is forthcoming.

Yates took over at TC this past summer. He had previously worked on the staff at Northwestern Oklahoma State, and has also been an assistant at Midwestern State and Prairie View A&M. The long-time coach had also been the head coach at Elevation Prep (IN), and St. Pius X high school in Houston.
