Daily Dirt – 3/3/25

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

Things are starting to pick up as we enter the first week of March. Here are some things that I’ve heard…

Houston associate head coach Quannas White is the hot name right now at Louisiana-Lafayette. The Louisiana native has been on Kelvin Sampson’s staff since 2017 (played for Sampson at Oklahoma). He has also been an assistant at Western Kentucky and Tulane. More on this one as I hear it.

The search at Stephen F. Austin seems to be entering the final stages. A lot of guys involved early – from MM D1 AC’s to a bunch of D2 head coaches, but sounds like they’re down to a small final group. The name making the most noise there right now is West Texas A&M head coach Tom Brown. SFA AD Michael McBroom hired Brown at WT back in 2014 – since then, Brown has gone 284-72 (.798) with four seasons of at least 30 wins with the Buffs.

It sounds like Arkansas Special Assistant to the Head Coach Bruiser Flint will be in the mix to join Jai Lucas’ new staff at Miami. Lucas and Flint had previously served together on John Calipari’s staff at Kentucky. Flint, the former head coach at UMass (1996-01) and Drexel (2001-16) would add a veteran presence for first-year head coach Lucas.

The D3 regular season is officially over. There have been a few moves so far (check them out HERE). Been chasing a bunch more over the past few days, including 1 in PA, 2, in MA, 1 in WI, and possibly another one in TX (besides UMHB). Stay tuned…

From the prep level…I can confirm that IMG’s Alex Popp is on the move and will head back north to join the staff at The Winchendon School (MA) as an assistant. Before joining the IMG staff, Popp had a ton of success as the head coach at Vermont Academy (2014-2020).

If you don’t follow me on social, here’s a look at what I think coming this cycle…

You can check out the 2025 Coaching Changes Tracker presented by D1.relocation HERE. It contains all of the head coaching changes so far at the NCAA D1, D2, D3, NAIA, and JUCO levels.
