Daily Dirt – 4/1/25

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

Just blasting out a few quick things. Going to be a busy day. Keeping an eye on some 4/1 buyouts…

I can confirm that Jamion Christian is the leader at Bryant and this thing is moving quickly. Christian, who has been coaching in Italy for the past few seasons is the former head coach at George Washington, Siena, and Mount St. Mary’s. More here soon.

According to a Jon Rothstein report, American head coach Duane Simpkins has received a contract extension through the 2029-30 season. He led his squad to the Patriot League Championship this past season (22-13), and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. This would seemingly take him out of the race to become the next head coach at his alma mater Maryland. George Mason’s Tony Skinn (a former Maryland assistant) has also inked a new deal through 2029-30, making his prospects at Maryland a bit cloudy as well. With Kevin Willard lighting the place ablaze on his way out by ripping their NIL $ (“We’ve been one of the worst, if not lowest, in the NIL in the last two years.”), blasting travel (couldn’t afford to stay in NY an extra night after playing Syracuse at Barclays), and the fact that the Terps currently do not have an AD, this will be a pretty interesting search.

Jake Presutti has departed the basketball staff at Buffalo. He had served as the associate head coach for the Bulls since 2023, and had spent two seasons as the Director of Scouting at Pitt before that. Presutti also worked at Marquette for seven seasons prior to his time in Pittsburgh. More on his landing sport shortly.

According to Bearcat Journal, Cincinnati assistant basketball coach and recruiting coordinator Drew Adams is planning to depart the program to join Head Coach Darien DeVries at Indiana. Adams had been at UC since 2022, and spent seven seasons at Bradley before that. More on this one once it becomes official.

Former Florida Atlantic (2006-08) and San Francisco (2008-16) head coach Rex Walters has landed as the head coach at Waterford Kettering high school in Michigan. Walters, who starred at Kansas and spent seven seasons in the NBA as a player, had most recently been an assistant with the Charlotte Hornets.
