De’Quan Powell has joined Spartanburg Methodist College as an assistant coach, head coach Blake Jackson announced on Tuesday.
Powell, a former student-athlete and coach at NCAA Division III member Alma College in Alma, Michigan, is reunited with Jackson, who he played for at Macomb Community College in Warren, Michigan.
Powell spent the 2024–25 season as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Alma, where the team reached the MIAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. As a student-athlete, Powell appeared in 28 games over his two-year career with the Scots. One of his best performances came against Grinnell, where he scored nine points and recorded four assists. While at Alma, Powell also served as a LINKS Mentor, helping first-year students transition to campus life, connect with resources, and build relationships.
Powell also coached for the Motor City Mambas, a 15U and 16U AAU basketball team based in Detroit, Michigan.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management from Alma College and an associate’s degree in business administration and management from Macomb Community College.
