Darnell Brown, Jr added to Memphis Basketball Staff

Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway has added Darrell Brown Jr. as the Tigers’ new director of player development for the 2025–26 season. A Memphis native and Germantown High School’s all-time leading scorer, Brown is also Hardaway’s godson and previously worked in the same role at Bradley University.

Brown replaces Andre Turner in that position; Turner will remain on staff in his other role as director of alumni and community relations.

This marks the first staff addition for Memphis this offseason. Hardaway also promoted Jermaine Johnson from director of analytics to assistant coach. Two staffers have departed: Jordan VerHulst (to Murray State) and Marcus Nunnally.

Brown played for Team Penny in AAU and had a standout college career at Bradley (2016–20), earning three All-MVC honors and leading the team to an NCAA Tournament berth in 2019. He remains top-five in school history in both scoring and assists.
