| Description: | With USF’s Mission Statement and core values in mind, the Men’s Head Basketball Coach must demonstrate willingness and ability to support and actively contribute to this Catholic and Franciscan mission and these values of the university. Under the direction of the Director of Athletics, is responsible for the operation of the entire men’s basketball program, including service to players, recruitment and retention of student-athletes during men’s basketball season, supervision of assistants, coordination of game and practice schedules, and external relations. The Head Men’s Basketball Coach will operate the program within the guidelines established by the Director of Athletics and in accordance with the goals of the University of Saint Francis. The ideal candidate must have an understanding of the Catholic faith and be able to guide student-athletes through their faith journey during their time at USF. This position will serve as a coach and instruct student athletes on how to perform their sport. Job Description Template/Created by HR 8/10/17, Rev 01/2022 1 Major Responsibilities/Activities • Recruits in accordance with NAIA, conference, and university guidelines, and maintains a roster as designated by the Director of Athletics and the Vice President for Enrollment Management. • Coordinates the operation of the program, including: • orders, issues, maintains and tracks inventory of necessary equipment; • supervises and is responsible for any assistant coaches (paid or volunteer); • schedules games and practices within NAIA, conference, and university guidelines, and ensures proper facility availability and set-up for all events; • compiles and submits an annual budget, and operates within the guidelines of the approved budget. • any other responsibilities as necessary. • Conducts practices to teach and train the student athletes on the rules and fundamentals of the sport. • Participates and contributes to the overall fundraising and public relations efforts of the university and Department Athletics. Projects a positive image of the university and the Department to the campus community, current and prospective student-athletes, and the external community through the actions and attitudes of coach and others in the program. • Acts in the best interests of student athletes, including • monitors academic progress toward a degree, and ensures eligibility compliance with NAIA academic regulations; • ensures that student-athletes have physical examinations and insurance forms on file prior to participation in practice or games; • follows recommendations of medical staff regarding injuries, rehabilitation, and ability to participate. • Assists other head coaches and assistant coaches with even set-up and management, fundraising, and other functions as needed • Projects a positive image of the university and the Athletic Department to the campus community, current and prospective student athletes, and the external community through the actions and attitudes of coach and others in the program. • Fosters a faith-based environment where student-athletes can pursue and enrich their relationship with Jesus. • Fulfill the Code of Ethics and Conduct of the University and the profession. • Performs other duties as required. |
