Bruce Pearl, 65, is expected to retire after 11 seasons as Auburn’s head basketball coach according to an ESPN report. His son, Steven Pearl, currently the Tigers’ associate head coach, is expected to take over the program this upcoming season.
Pearl leaves following a historic year in which Auburn reached its second-ever Final Four, earned the No. 1 overall NCAA tournament seed, and won the SEC regular-season title. Over his tenure, he led Auburn to six NCAA tournament appearances, two Final Fours, three SEC regular-season crowns, and two SEC tournament championships.
There has been much speculation lately that Pearl is considering a run for Senate, replacing Tommy Tuberville who is running for Governor of Alabama.
Pearl will conclude his 30 seasons as a D1 head coach with a record of 694-270 (.720). He has had stops at Tennessee, Milwaukee, and Southern Indiana as well his time at Auburn.
