Description:

Manhattan University, an NCAA Division I institution and member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), is seeking a qualified candidate for a 12 month, full-time position as Assistant Coach. The Assistant Coach leads the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball program by recruiting and developing qualified student-athletes, supervising assistant coaches, and organizing schedules. The Assistant coach must conduct the program in a manner that recognizes the primacy of academics by recruiting, supporting, and retaining student-athletes who will be competitive in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Assistant coach must ensure that the Men’s Basketball program operates in compliance with all University, MAAC and NCAA rules and regulations. The successful candidate for this role will have a focus on all aspects of player development and operational support. This role specializes in multi-faceted environments and works well with student-athletes and administrators. This is an in person on campus non – remote position.

ESSENTIAL DURIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide expert on-court instruction during practice and individual skill development sessions across multiple positions
  • Support scouting preparation and manage game-day logistics including film preparation, walk-throughs, and playbook adjustments
  • Coordinate on-campus recruiting visits including presentation development, logistics management, and player host coordination
  • Develop comprehensive player wellness plans in partnership with athletic training and strength staff
  • Foster positive team culture through community service projects and alumni outreach initiatives
  • Serve as primary communication bridge between coaching staff and student managers/graduate assistants
  • Manage operational aspects of home and away game logistics
  • Support coaching staff with administrative tasks and program operations

SPECIALIZED LIAISON RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate and attend weekly academic meetings with Katherine Torode to review student-athlete academic standing and eligibility status
  • Serve as first point of contact for academic red flags and intervention strategies
  • Serve as primary contact for all travel arrangements and coordination
  • Maintain ongoing communication with medical staff regarding player health and injury status
  • Liaison with the General Manager and Chief of Staff
  • Technical proficiency with basketball analytics applications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities
  • Experience working with student-athletes in academic support capacity preferred
  • Technical proficiency with basketball analytics applications
  • Minimum of 3 years of basketball coaching experience, preferably at the NCAA Division I level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel frequently and work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • High level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
