Mason added as Assistant Basketball Coach at NAIA Rust College

Rust College has announced the hiring of Scotty Mason as an assistant men’s basketball coach.

Mason brings more than 20 years of experience as a basketball trainer and coach, with a career dedicated to developing athletes in all fundamental aspects of the game. His expertise includes shooting, passing, defense, ball handling, rebounding, conditioning, and coordination, along with an emphasis on mental preparation, discipline, and advanced training techniques such as plyometrics.

Mason’s coaching and player development background spans the high school, collegiate, and professional levels. He most recently served as Assistant Coach and Player Development Coordinator at Edward Waters College (2022–2023) and as a Player Development Coach with the Zhejiang Golden Bulls of the Chinese Basketball Association (2022). Prior to those roles, he was Director of Player Development at Fort Erie International Academy in Canada (2021–2022).

Earlier in his career, Mason gained valuable experience as an Assistant Coach and Player Development Specialist at Memphis East High School (2016–2017) and as a Player Development Coach with the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies (2007–2009).

“Coach Mason’s wealth of knowledge, proven track record in player development, and experience at multiple levels of competition will be a tremendous asset to our men’s basketball program,” said Rust College Director of Athletics Jeremy Patterson. “We are excited to welcome him to Bearcat Nation as we continue to strengthen our program both on and off the court.”
