Former Austin Peay head coach and longtime Duke assistant Nate James has joined the Howard University men’s basketball staff as the associate head coach.
James spent 14 seasons on Mike Krzyzewski’s staff at Duke, where he was part of two national championship teams (he also won one as a player for the Blue Devils), and helped develop numerous NBA players. He was named head coach at Austin Peay in 2021 and went 21–39 in two seasons before departing in 2023. He now reunites with Howard head coach Kenny Blakeney, a fellow Duke alum.
James fills the spot previously held by Steve Ongley, who left earlier this week to join the NBA G League’s Wisconsin Herd as an assistant.
