JUCO NEWS: Marquis retires as Head Basketball Coach at Tyler JC

Long-time Tyler JC head men’s Mike Marquis will retire from his position at the end of the season. The school honored him over the weekend with a ceremony prior to their game with Panola.

Marquis has led the Tyler Junior College men’s basketball program since 2001, building one of the most consistent NJCAA programs in the country. Before arriving at Tyler, he went 60-10 in two seasons (1999–2001) as head coach at Indian Hills (IA), after serving one year there as associate head coach. Prior to Indian Hills, Marquis compiled a 235-106 record as head coach at Marshalltown.

A Newton (IA) High School graduate, Marquis played collegiately at Marshalltown Community College and Grand View University, earning a degree in English.

Among his highlights at Tyler, the 2017-18 team went 26-7, won the NJCAA Region 14 title, and advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament. In February 2023, a 67-50 win over Paris JC marked Marquis’ 700th career victory.
