A few things from the JUCO level…
Utah State Eastern
I have heard from multiple sources that Bill Evans is no longer the head basketball coach at NJCAA D1 USUE. Evans, who is the former head coach at both Southern Utah (1992-2007) and Idaho State (2013-19) had been the Eagles head coach for the past four seasons. This year, USUE went 22-9 (9-6).
Ranger College
Sources have told me that Zack Verhulst in no longer the head basketball coach at NJCAA D1 Ranger College (TX). Verhulst was promoted to head coach at RC back in the spring of 2023 after serving as an assistant the the college. Prior to his time with the Rangers, he worked as an assistant at Chipola College (FL) and as a graduate assistant at Eastern Michigan. Ranger went 14-17 (8-6) this past season.
West Valley College
It sounds like the search to replace Danny Yoshikawa (became an assistant at Oregon State) just about wrapped up at CCCAA West Valley College (CA). Multiple sources have confirmed that the leader here is Cal State Northridge Director of Basketball Operations Mykel Morse. Prior to his time at CSUN, Morse spent three seasons on Yoshikawa’s staff at WVC, and was a part of the 2023-24 team that went 33-0 and won the 3C2A championship in 2023-24. An official announcement here could be made sometime next week.
In case you missed it from last night, I have confirmed that Grant McMillan is no longer the head men’s basketball coach at NJCAA D1 Navarro College (TX) after seven seasons on the job. More on that one here -> JUCO DIRT.
