Florida Memorial University has named Anthony Q. Anderson as its Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Director of Athletics Chandra Dorsey-Felton announced. A press conference introducing Coach Anderson will be held on Thursday, April 9 at 9:30 a.m. at the Wellness Center.
“We are proud to welcome Coach Anderson to the Florida Memorial University family as our new men’s basketball head coach,” said Florida Memorial University President William McCormick. “Coach Anderson brings an outstanding record of leadership, experience, and player development that reflects the core values of FMU. His arrival signals another important milestone in the ongoing transformation of our athletic program, as we continue to elevate the performance, visibility, and impact of FMU Athletics. This is an inspiring moment for our student-athletes, our campus community, and our loyal Lion supporters.”
Anderson brings nearly three decades of collegiate coaching and administrative experience, having coached at every level of the game, including NCAA Division I, junior college, NAIA, HBCU, and high school, along with extensive experience in AAU basketball and player development.

He is a man of integrity who leads with purpose and is fully committed to developing young men both academically and athletically. His leadership, recruiting presence in the state of Florida, and vision for championship success make him the ideal leader for our program.”
Most recently, Anderson served as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at the University of Fort Lauderdale, where he built the program from the ground up into a nationally recognized competitor. Under his leadership, the program earned multiple national rankings, achieved 100+ wins, and consistently competed at a high level within NCCAA Division I.
Coach Anderson led the Eagles to multiple NCCAA appearances, coached eight All-Conference players, and guided the program to the 2023 South Regional Championship and a Final Four appearance. During the 2024–25 season, the Eagles finished sixth nationally in the NCCAA.
Most recently, Anderson was named the South Regional Coach of the Year for the 2025–26 season, a postseason honor recognizing his leadership and the program’s outstanding performance.
Throughout his career, Anderson has demonstrated a commitment to student-athlete development both on and off the court, taking pride in maintaining a 97% graduation rate among his players. His coaching background includes stops at the University of Miami, Florida International University, Broward College, Lamar University, Central Connecticut State University, Tulane University, the University of New Orleans, Dillard University, and McNeese State University, among others, giving him a comprehensive understanding of building and sustaining competitive programs.
In addition to his coaching success, Anderson brings extensive experience in program administration, compliance, fundraising, and community engagement. He has led fundraising initiatives generating over $100,000 in support of student-athlete development and program growth, while also building strong relationships with alumni, donors, and community partners.
A respected figure in the basketball community, Anderson has deep recruiting ties throughout South Florida and across the state, positioning FMU to attract top talent while maintaining strong connections with local high school and AAU programs.
