New UT Tyler head basketball coach Doug Karleskint has added Cody San Miguel and Ezequeil Tenorio to his staff.
A Texas native with operational and coaching experience in the Lone Star State, Cody San Miguel is in his first season as an associate head coach with UT Tyler.
In his three years at UT Arlington, the Mavericks amassed 51 victories and posted an impressive 30-11 home record. UTA reached the championship game of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament in 2024 and the tournament semifinals in 2026. UTA won at least 18 games twice in his three years, a win total achieved only nine times in the school’s first 55 years of basketball history prior to his arrival.
In 2025-26, the Mavericks allowed just 66.7 points per game, a figure that ranked 23rd nationally and No. 1 in the WAC. In addition, the team led the NCAA in 3-point field goal percentage defense, forcing opponents into just 26.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc while connecting on just 4.7 threes per game. The Mavericks also ranked 36th nationally in rebounding margin (+5.3).
During his time in Arlington, the Mavericks boasted four All-Western Athletic Conference players, three All-WAC Defensive Team performers, two All-WAC Freshman Team members and one WAC Sixth Man of the Year.
Prior to joining UTA he had two seasons as an assistant coach at Division-II Central Missouri. Prior to that, he spent the 2020-21 campaign with Texas as the Longhorns’ Coordinator of Video and Operations.
While with Texas, San Miguel was part of a team that won the Big 12 Tournament Championship, was ranked as high as #4 nationally and finished with a 19-8 record (11-6 Big 12) in the COVID-impacted season.
Before his time with the Longhorns, San Miguel spent the 2019-20 season as an assistant coach/video coordinator with Mountain West Conference member Air Force.
San Miguel was an assistant coach at Talladega College in Talladega, Ala., during the 2018-19 season and helped the Tornadoes tally a 24-8 overall record and advance to the NAIA National Tournament.
Boasting plenty of familiarity with UTA previously, San Miguel served as a graduate assistant coach under Danny Kaspar from 2015-18 at rival Texas State. During the 2016-17 campaign, the Bobcats posted a 22-14 overall record to earn their first winning season in 14 years and their first postseason appearance in 20 years as TXST participated in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT).
San Miguel was the head coach at Hill Country Christian School in San Marcos for two seasons (2013-15). He led Hill Country to the Second Round of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) state playoffs in both seasons and posted an undefeated district record in 2014-15.
San Miguel served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2007-11 as an infantry team leader/company land navigator and was stationed at USMC Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, Calif. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Health and Wellness Promotion from Texas State in 2016 and received his Master of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas State in 2018.
Ezequeil Tenorio joined the UT Tyler men’s basketball staff in April 2026 and will enter his first season with the program in 2026–27.
Tenorio most recently served as an assistant coach at Clarendon College, where he was heavily involved in scouting, game preparation, and the development of student-athletes. He also played a key role in recruiting, coordinating team travel, and assisting with overall program management.
Prior to Clarendon, Tenorio worked as an assistant coach at Fort Scott Community College, contributing to all aspects of the program including coaching, scouting, recruiting, and skill development. His experience also includes time as a graduate assistant at the University of Central Missouri, where he utilized advanced analytics platforms such as Synergy, Hudl, and FastScout to support scouting and game preparation, while also assisting with recruiting, academics, and daily operations.
Tenorio began his coaching journey at Texas State University, where he served as Head Student Manager. During his time there, the program captured a Sun Belt Conference Regular Season Championship, and he gained valuable experience in operations, team logistics, and player support.
In addition to his collegiate experience, Tenorio has worked with the Texas Impact grassroots program, further expanding his recruiting network and player evaluation experience at the high school level.
A Texas native, Tenorio earned his master’s degree in Sports Management from the University of Central Missouri and holds a bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Texas State University, with a minor in Psychology.
