D3 NEWS: Pierfy named Head Basketball Coach at King’s College

King’s College and Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation Andy Orlowski proudly announce the hiring of Phil Pierfy as the Monarchs’ Head Men’s Basketball Coach on Friday afternoon, adding a dynamic recruiter and player development specialist to lead the program into its next chapter. Pierfy becomes the 11th head coach in program history.

Pierfy brings a wealth of coaching and playing experience at the highest levels of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), along with a proven track record of developing student-athletes both on and off the court.

The selection of Pierfy followed a comprehensive national search, during which his vision for the program and commitment to student-athlete development stood out.

“Throughout the search process, Phil consistently demonstrated a modern and highly competitive approach to recruiting and developing student-athletes,” said Orlowski. “His attention to detail and commitment to an intentional player development model position our program to make strides in the competitive MAC Freedom. Phil is a builder of winning habits and a leader who demands excellence, and I am confident he will bring relentless energy, accountability, and a clear competitive edge to this position. I look forward to the program competing at a high level under Phil’s leadership.”

Pierfy most recently served as an assistant coach at Arcadia University for seven seasons. During his tenure, he played a central role in opponent scouting, game preparation, and individualized player development, particularly working closely with frontcourt players. He also directed film breakdown and analysis efforts while contributing significantly to recruiting. In addition, he designed and implemented year-round development programs and led individual workouts during the season to help players translate skill work into game performance.

Pierfy joins the program with a strong history of coaching elite student-athletes and producing high-level results. He played a key role in the development of 13 All-Conference players, including 2021 MAC Commonwealth MVP Jalen Watkins, and recruited 2025 MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year Jamison Lynam, along with 11 additional All-Conference selections.

As an assistant coach, Pierfy helped lead the Knights to their second-ever MAC conference title in 2023, defeating DeSales University 74-61. During his time on staff, Arcadia finished in the top four of the conference and qualified for the MAC playoffs in all seven seasons.

Off the court, Pierfy placed a strong emphasis on academic success. He created and managed a structured academic support system that included progress tracking and organized study halls, helping the program reach a team-record 3.1 GPA during the 2024-25 season. He also contributed to budget oversight and fundraising initiatives, while fostering community engagement through partnerships such as Special Olympics and team-led service efforts.

During the offseason, Pierfy serves as the head coach of the 17U East Coast Power AAU program, mentoring several college-bound student-athletes.

A standout player during his collegiate career, Pierfy served as a team captain and led Arcadia to its first-ever conference championship and NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in 2019. The Knights also secured the program’s first NCAA Tournament victory with an 80-60 win over New Jersey City in the opening round. Pierfy earned All-MAC Commonwealth honors twice during his playing career.

He finished his career ranked fifth on Arcadia’s all-time scoring list with 1,191 points, averaging 13.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Following his senior season, he was named an NABC First Team All-District selection, marking the first such honor in program history.

In addition to basketball, Pierfy was a three-year member of Arcadia’s baseball team, where he helped the program capture two MAC Commonwealth championships and earn NCAA Tournament appearances in 2017 and 2018. A two-time All-Conference selection and 2018 ABCA First Team All-Region honoree, he concluded his career ranked among the program’s leaders in several statistical categories.

Pierfy graduated from Arcadia in May 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and earned his master’s degree in sports analysis from California University of Pennsylvania in 2020.

As he steps into his new role, Pierfy expressed gratitude for the opportunity and excitement about the future of the program.

“First I’d like to thank Athletic Director Andy Orlowski, Reverend Thomas Looney, and the entire search committee for the opportunity,” said Pierfy. “I’m extremely honored to be selected to take over the Men’s Basketball Program at King’s College. The King’s program has had a storied history of success and I am humbled to work on building something special here. I am ecstatic to begin to develop relationships with our student athletes and support them in their college experience.”
