Queens University of Charlotte, an NCAA Division I affiliate that competes in the ASUN Conference, is seeking qualified candidates for the position Assistant Coach for Men’s Basketball. This is a full-time, 12-month benefits eligible position that reports to the Head Coach for Men’s Basketball.
This position is considered a Responsible Employee for purposes of the university’s Sexual Misconduct Policy. As such, this position is required to report any incident of sexual misconduct or interpersonal violence to the university’s Title IX Coordinator when made aware of such.
Queens conducts confidential background investigations on candidates as part of the hiring process, including any past NCAA rules violations. According to the NCAA bylaws:
“Contractual agreements or appointments between a coach and an institution shall include the stipulation that a coach who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations.”
This position is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Adhere to the highest standards of student-athlete welfare.
- Adhere to all NCAA, ASUN and University governing policies and procedures.
- Assist Director in day-to-day operations of the Men’s Basketball program.
- Successfully identify and accurately assess the talent of Men’s Basketball athletes.
- Assist with recruiting and scouting within NCAA regulations and Queens’ academic admissions standards, including developing databases, call potential recruits, plan and organize recruiting trips, and accurately and timely complete all paperwork associated with those efforts.
- Prepare and present comprehensive, accurate and timely scouting reports.
- Effectively use various technologies (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook).
- Assist student-athletes with individual performance and provide leadership/direction for improvements.
- Assist with all aspects of game planning preparation, practice organization, and off-season training programs.
- Participate in alumni relations, fundraising activities, and other program communication and relationship-management as appropriate.
- Provide informal support to student athletes in academic and personal matters.
- Participate in and assist with Men’s Basketball sport camps.
- Must be able and willing to regularly work evenings and weekends and travel for competitions and recruiting to achieve objectives of the position.
Non-Essential Duties
- Other duties may be assigned as needed to achieve department and university goals.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required
- Collegiate Basketball and/or coaching experience and ability to transfer the knowledge and skills gained to student athletes.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of the professionalism and intensity necessary to successfully contribute to a Division I athletics program.
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Successful proven experience with recruiting and scouting.
- Knowledge of ASUN conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
- Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Proven track record of consistently modeling positive behaviors at all times.
- Strong follow‐up and follow‐through skills as well as ability to plan, organize and control projects through to completion.
- Proven ability to handle and maintain confidential information; familiarity with FERPA a plus.
- Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license, or ability to attain same by hire date.
- Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in experience and education.
