JUCO NEWS: Glover departs Fort Scott CC, named Head Basketball Coach at Colby CC

Colby Trojans Athletics has announced the hiring of Matt Glover as the new head coach of the Trojans men’s basketball program.

Glover brings a strong background in player development, recruiting, and program management to Colby, most recently serving as head coach at Fort Scott since July 2024. In that role, he oversaw all aspects of the program, including daily operations, recruiting, budgeting, academic progress, and alumni engagement.

“We are thrilled to have Coach Matt Glover as our Head Men’s Basketball Coach,” said Colby Athletic Director Kenny Hernandez. “Coach Glover’s leadership represents Colby Community College on and off of the court and will build a culture of excellence and togetherness.”

Prior to Fort Scott, Glover spent three seasons as lead assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Colorado State University Pueblo, where he managed recruiting efforts across multiple regions including Colorado, California, Arizona, Texas, and the NCAA Transfer Portal. He also served as defensive coordinator, helping develop multiple All-RMAC performers while emphasizing a disciplined, high-level defensive identity. In addition to his on-court responsibilities, Glover played a key role in academic coordination, alumni engagement, and fundraising, contributing to a team GPA of 3.22 and raising funds for program initiatives.

Glover also gained experience as a graduate assistant at Regis University, where he helped guide the program to a 20–10 record and a conference semifinal appearance. During his time there, he contributed to player development, academic success, and camp operations while working with multiple all-conference performers.

Glover holds a Master of Arts in Sports Administration from Regis University (2018–2020) and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Regis University (2012–2015). He also studied at Pennsylvania State University (2011–2012) and completed his Associate of Arts at Sheridan College (2010–2011).

“I am excited to compete on the Division I side of the Jayhawk and spark a buzz about Colby CC men’s basketball again in the community,” said Glover.

Glover emphasized that his program will focus on building well-rounded student-athletes while competing at a high level on the court.

“To cultivate and develop our players into men through our sport is the foundation,” Glover said. “A large part of the habits, routines, and life lessons we instill won’t show up in the box score, but they will set our players up for life. Once that foundation is built, the results on the court will follow.”

Known for his defensive mindset, Glover plans to bring an aggressive, high-energy style of play to Colby.

“We are going to get after teams from start to finish,” he said. “I’ve always been a defensive guy. There’s something about seeing five guys in sync, creating havoc, that fires me up. Offensively, we want to play fast and free, allowing our guys to play with confidence through strong habits and preparation.”

As he begins his tenure, Glover is focused on building relationships both within the program and the Colby community.

“My immediate priority is making sure our players are set up for success on and off the court,” Glover said. “We’re also working to build a competitive roster right away and establish strong connections with the Colby community so they can truly feel a part of this program.”

Glover also shared what fans can expect from his teams moving forward.

“Simply put…team basketball,” he said. “Guys playing for one another, unselfish play, and a high level of competition with a child-like joy in our work.”

Glover will begin his duties immediately as he looks to lead the Trojans into a new era of success. Colby is excited about the direction of the program and the foundation being built under his leadership, as the Trojans aim to compete at a high level and reestablish a strong presence in the Jayhawk Conference.
