Kansas City Kansas Community College has announced the hiring of Taylor Tucker as the new head coach of the Blue Devils men’s basketball program.
Tucker joins KCKCC after spending the past five seasons at Des Moines Area Community College, where he most recently served as associate head coach. During his five seasons with the Bears, DMACC compiled an impressive 145-29 record, good for an .833 winning percentage, while Tucker played an integral role in recruiting, player development, scouting, and the day-to-day operations of the program. His leadership also helped provide continuity through a coaching transition while maintaining one of the top junior college programs in the region.
“We are thrilled to welcome Taylor and his family to Kansas City Kansas Community College. He rose to the top of a very strong and competitive applicant pool, which speaks to both his professional accomplishments and the respect he has earned within the coaching community.” said Director of Athletics Greg McVey. “Throughout his career, he has consistently been part of winning cultures, demonstrating a commitment to excellence, accountability, and student-athlete development. His leadership, vision, and ability to build meaningful relationships align perfectly with our institutional values. We are confident that he will not only sustain but elevate the trajectory of our program. This is an exciting moment for Blue Devil basketball, and we look forward to continuing the growth and success of our men’s basketball program under his direction.”
“I think the biggest thing was just the opportunity that there is at KCKCC” Tucker said. “There’s already been a lot of success there, but I also think there’s room to grow.”
Before his time at DMACC, Tucker spent two seasons at Northern State University, where he helped guide the Wolves to back-to-back Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championships. During the 2020-21 season, Northern State entered the NCAA Division II National Tournament ranked No. 2 nationally before advancing to the Sweet Sixteen.
Tucker also previously served as an assistant coach at Monmouth College, where he helped the Scots capture a conference championship during the 2017-18 season.
A native of Tyler, Texas, Tucker played collegiately at Olivet Nazarene University, where he helped lead the Tigers to two NAIA National Tournament appearances. He graduated in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and physical education.
Tucker takes over the Blue Devils program with a reputation for building strong relationships, developing talent, and creating a culture centered on accountability and success both on and off the court.
“I think the most important thing is to have the right people there,” Tucker said. “If you’re going to build a winning culture, it starts with having the right people… and then who we’re recruiting and bringing in the door.”
“I’m excited to get there and get started. I think there’s bright days ahead,” Tucker said. “I’m looking forward to building on the success that’s already been there… and hopefully produce something that everybody’s very proud of.”
