Gulf Coast State College is pleased to announce the hiring of Adam Sweeney as the new Head Men’s Basketball Coach. Sweeney will begin work immediately to assist with the recruiting efforts for the 2026-2027 basketball season.

Coach Sweeney joins Gulf Coast after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Gardner-Webb University. Prior to that, he served as the top assistant coach at Northwest Florida State College during two separate stints. While there, he helped guide the program to a 117-22 record, multiple conference and regional championships, and a 2023 National Runner-Up finish. He also served as an assistant coach at New Mexico Junior College from 2021-2022.

A graduate of Gardner-Webb University, Coach Sweeney also played basketball for the Bulldogs. He is married to Allison Sweeney, and they have one daughter, Claire.

‘We could not possibly be more excited to announce the hiring of Adam Sweeney,” said GCSC Athletic Director Mike Kandler. “He was a huge part of the tremendous success that Northwest Florida had while he was on staff, and we truly believe our men’s basketball program is in great hands. I look forward to formally introducing him at a press conference in the near future.”
