DAILY DIRT – 5/11/26

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

Some things that I’ve heard over the past few days…

Mercyhurst assistant Derek Spanellis is on the move and will become the head coach at St. Albans School in DC. Spanellis joined the Mercyhurst staff last spring following a stint as an assistant at his alma mater Dickinson. He has also worked as an assistant at Wesleyan and Pratt Institute.

The search at D2 Fairmont State (WVA) is entering its final stages, with at least two on campus interviews being held – one last Friday and one today. The two names for this one right now are Youngstown State assistant associate head coach Dwaine Osborne and Mercer assistant Daniel Mondragon. Prior to his time at YSU, Osborne spent 19-seasons as a D2 head coach with stops at Charleston (WVA), Texas Permian Basin, and Glenville State (WVA). Mondragon has also been a D2 head coach, spending five seasons as the head coach at Davis and Elkins before joining the Mercer staff.

Last week, I mentioned the four candidates at D2 Anderson (SC) (DAILY DIRT – 5/5/26). It now sounds like Osbourne could be the 5th name here. This has been a bit of an odd search over the past week, so stay tuned…

I have heard that the search at D3 Wisconsin Oshkosh is down to three candidates – all current D3 head coaches. One from the Midwest Conference, one from the UMAC, and one from the American Rivers Conference. More on this one shortly.

It sounds like Gettysburg assistant Jalen Rhea is on the move and will become the full-time assistant at Dennison. Rhea, who played at American, had spent the past two season on the Bullets staff.

ICYMI from yesterday…Terrance McGee is no longer the head coach at NJCAA D1 Wabash Valley College. More here -> JUCO DIRT.
