JUCO NEWS: Tucker named Head Basketball Coach at Harper College

Harper College has named Jason Tucker as the next head coach of the men’s basketball program ahead of the 2026–27 season.

Tucker brings nearly two decades of coaching experience at the high school level across the Chicagoland area, along with a strong reputation for player development, program building, and community engagement. His background aligns closely with Harper’s vision of strengthening its presence within the Mid-Suburban League and surrounding districts.

Tucker most recently served as the head boys basketball coach at Schaumburg High School from 2022 to 2026. Prior to that, he spent time as a varsity assistant at Stevenson High School, gaining experience within one of the area’s most established programs.

Earlier in his career, Tucker led multiple programs to success as a head coach. At Taft High School, he guided the team to a White North Conference Championship in 2021 and was named IBCA District One Coach of the Year. His teams posted a 44–32 record during his tenure, including a 31–14 mark over his final two seasons.

Before Taft, Tucker served as head coach at Sullivan High School, where he led the program to a CPL Blue North Tournament Championship, a City Final Four appearance, and a 17–11 record. He was also recognized as Blue North Conference Coach of the Year.

Tucker’s most extensive head coaching tenure came at Luther North College Prep, where he compiled a 121–79 record over seven seasons. During that time, he led the program to its first conference championship since 1969, two regional titles, and the first IHSA Sweet 16 appearance in school history. His 2015 team won 24 games, the second-highest total in program history, and earned Comcast SportsNet Team of the Week honors. Tucker was named IBCA District 1 Coach of the Year twice and coached in the IBCA All-Star Game. He also developed multiple All-State players, including two who were selected to the IBCA All-Star Game.

Tucker began his coaching career as a varsity assistant at Montini Catholic High School during the 2008–09 season.

A graduate of Concordia University Chicago, Tucker earned his Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education Teaching and Coaching before completing his Master’s degree in Adapted Physical Education at Northern Illinois University. His professional background as an educator, including work with students with special needs, reflects his commitment to teaching, mentorship, and holistic player development.

Tucker is known for his passion for coaching, his emphasis on building relationships, and his dedication to helping student-athletes succeed both on and off the court. His approach focuses on developing disciplined, competitive teams while creating pathways for players to continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level.

“At Harper, we were looking for a coach who understands this area, values development, and can build meaningful relationships within our community,” said Director of Athletics Dr. Cedric M. Brown. “Jason brings a proven track record of building programs, developing student-athletes, and connecting with the players and coaches in our district. We are excited for the direction he will take Harper basketball.”

At Harper, Tucker will look to build a program rooted in local recruiting, player development, and strong connections within the surrounding basketball community.
