Northern Kentucky University Norse athletics announced the promotions of assistant men’s basketball coaches Simon McCormack and David Harris, with both being promoted to Associate Head Coach.
“Both David and Simon have been a huge part of our success, as having the most Horizon League tournament championships and tournament wins during our time here at NKU,” said Norse head coach Darrin Horn. “They are tremendous mentors of young men and have demonstrated excellence in all areas as coaches, including recruiting, player development, and game strategy. Just as crucial, they have been instrumental in keeping us competitive while helping navigate an ever-changing landscape in college basketball. My thanks to interim Director of Athletics John Mason and President Cady Short Thompson for recognizing their contributions and value.”
Harris and McCormack both joined the Norse before the 2019-20 campaign, along with Horn, and have helped Northern Kentucky achieve a 134-90 record and an 85-51 record in Horizon League play. Northern Kentucky has won 12 games in the Horizon League tournament and earned a pair of Horizon League Championship victories in both the 2019-20 and 2022-23 campaigns. NKU’s 12 Horizon League tournament wins mark the most in the league since 2019-20, and the Norse’s three championship game appearances also lead the league during that time frame. Since joining the Horizon League in 2015, NKU has the best overall, league, and tournament records among active members, going 215-141 overall, 130-78 in league games, and 18-7 in the Horizon League tournament.
