Warner Pacific University Athletics has announced the hiring of Jeff Drinkwine as the new head coach of the Knights men’s basketball program. Bringing more than 25 years of coaching experience across multiple levels of basketball, Drinkwine arrives at Warner Pacific with a reputation for building successful programs and developing student-athletes on and off the court.
Throughout his coaching career, Drinkwine has worked at nearly every level of the game, including high school basketball, NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, junior college, and NAIA programs. Each coaching stop has contributed to his growth as a leader and educator while helping shape a philosophy centered on using basketball as a platform for personal development.
Drinkwine’s approach emphasizes transformational growth for both players and coaches. His focus extends beyond wins and losses, prioritizing the life lessons that come through teamwork, accountability, discipline, and perseverance. He believes the daily challenges and responsibilities associated with being part of a team help prepare student-athletes for success long after their playing careers have ended.
The veteran coach is particularly familiar with the Pacific Northwest basketball landscape. Much of his head coaching experience has come within the NAIA ranks and the Cascade Collegiate Conference, where he has spent years competing against some of the region’s top programs. His return to the conference marks a homecoming of sorts, as he reconnects with a level of basketball and a community where he has enjoyed much of his coaching success.
Warner Pacific has a rich tradition of men’s basketball success, and Drinkwine’s leadership will focus on restoring that tradition while creating sustainable growth for the future. His extensive experience, understanding of the conference, and commitment to student-athlete development position him well to guide the Knights into their next chapter.
“I feel like we made a really solid choice in hiring Coach Drinkwine,” Athletic Director Matt Gregg said. ” With his years of experience in the Cascade Conference, he knows how tough this league is and has hit the ground running, recruiting kids that will help turn the program around. His relationships all over the Pacific NW, and surrounding areas will be a huge benefit in recruiting. I look forward to witnessing a positive shift in play, effort, and attitude. I think Coach Drinkwine understands our focus on faith at Warner Pacific as well, and he will be able to show this in how he manages his team.”
Away from basketball, Drinkwine enjoys spending time with his family. He takes pride in supporting his son on the basketball court and cherishes time with his daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter. He also enjoys traveling throughout the country, visiting colleges and universities, and taking walks with the family’s dog, Buckets.
As Warner Pacific continues to build toward future success, the addition of Drinkwine brings an experienced leader committed to developing competitive teams, strong character, and a culture that reflects the values of the university. The Knights community looks forward to the impact he will make on the men’s basketball program in the years ahead.
